Art X Detroit
Art X Detroit: Kresge Arts Experience is a five-day multidisciplinary celebration that will exclusively present newly commissioned works created by the 2008-2010 Kresge Eminent Artists and Artists Fellows, from April 6-10, 2011. An exciting program of dance and musical performances, literary readings, workshops, panel discussions, public art and special exhibitions, Art X Detroit will be hosted at more than a dozen venues located throughout Midtown Detroit’s Cultural Center and is free to the public. Art X Detroit is being supported by the Kresge Foundation.

Kresge Arts In Detroit (KAID)
Kresge Arts in Detroit, funded by The Kresge Foundation and administered by the College for Creative Studies, provides significant financial support to metropolitan Detroit artists through the Kresge Artist Fellowships and the Kresge Eminent Artist Award.
Kresge Artist Fellowships:
Kresge Arts in Detroit provides significant financial support for Kresge Artist Fellowships annually, each consisting of a $25,000 award and customized professional practice opportunities for emerging and established metropolitan Detroit artists in the literary, performing and visual arts. Every two years, 36 fellowships are awarded (12 literary, 12 performing and 12 visual arts fellowships). Customized professional practice opportunities are offered by ArtServe Michigan.
Kresge Eminent Artist Award:
Kresge Arts in Detroit provides significant financial support for one Kresge Eminent Artist Award of $50,000 annually to an exceptional artist who has made a longstanding contribution to metropolitan Detroit in the literary, performing or visual arts.

The Kresge Foundation
Kresge Arts in Detroit represents one facet of the foundation’s Detroit Program, a comprehensive community-development framework to strengthen the long-term economic, social and cultural fabric of the city and surrounding area. In 2010, the Board of Trustees approved 481 awards totaling $158 million; $134 million was paid out to grantees over the course of the year.

College for Creative Studies
College for Creative Studies is a world leader in art and design education that prepares students to enter the new global economy where creativity shapes better communities and societies. The private, fully accredited college, located in Detroit, enrolls 1,400 students pursuing Master of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees. The Kresge Eminent Artist Award and Kresge Artist Fellowships are administered by the Kresge Arts in Detroit office at the college.

ArtServe Michigan
ArtServe Michigan is the leading statewide arts and cultural advocacy organization dedicated to strengthening communities by positioning arts, culture and arts education as key contributors to the re-invention of Michigan’s economy. They are committed to developing and supporting the creative and professional potential of artists and other creative practitioners working in Michigan. Through their statewide Creative Many Initiative and their work directing the Professional Practice Opportunities for Kresge Artist Fellows they offer a portfolio of programs designed to connect practitioners to the knowledge, networks, and advocacy needed to help them thrive. ArtServe Michigan provides practical opportunities that stimulate ideas and growth. Their programs focus on four main areas: professional development, networking and dialogue, research and analysis, and awards and recognition.

Located in the heart of Detroit’s vibrant Midtown neighborhood, the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD) functions as a hub for an incisive exploration of ideas in contemporary art. The exhibitions program presents innovative and diverse voices in contemporary art and investigates topics that are germane to the city, encouraging artists to explore new territory, and engaging audiences in re-thinking their understanding of the post-industrial urban context. In its fifth year, the Museum has featured exhibitions by artists from more than 40 countries and has served more than 100,000 visitors.
Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD)
MOCAD is housed in a 22,000-square-foot building, a former auto dealership designed by Albert Kahn, which has been lightly renovated to retain its historic character. The Museum’s cutting-edge and eclectic series of public programs includes lectures, musical performances, films, literary readings and educational activities for children and adults.

University Cultural Center Association (UCCA)
The University Cultural Center Association (UCCA) is a nonprofit planning and development organization that supports the physical maintenance and revitalization of Midtown Detroit, while working to enhance public awareness, appreciation and use of the district. Founded in 1976, the organization has been working to encourage new housing development, increased visitorship to area attractions, and new commercial activity within the neighborhood. Since 2005, UCCA has raised over $30 million for a variety of initiatives such as the streetscaping of Woodward Avenue, the Midtown Loop Greenway, and commercial façade improvements. In addition, UCCA has facilitated funding for over 40 residential developments, resulting in over 1,500 new units of housing. Other projects undertaken include the installation of a comprehensive wayfinding signage system for the district, the development of the Inn on Ferry Street, public park and median improvements, the creation of 2 community gardens in the Midtown district, and the production of some of Midtown’s most signature events – the Detroit Festival of the Arts, Midsummer Nights in Midtown and Noel Night.
